 1. Q: When do I need to do the registration?

A: Graduate students shall get registered at the Office of Admission and Management International College twice a year. The registrations are held at the beginning of the Spring Semester (late February or early March) and Fall Semester (early September or Mid-September). Graduate students need to bring student ID Books as well as passports to the Office of Admission and Management International College, and go through registration formalities to get registered for the new semester, according to the University Academic Calendar.

Graduate students who could not attend the registration on time should apply for the delayed registration in advance. A late-registration application form should be filled and submitted to the Office of Admission and Management International College. The application will not be valid until the approval is granted.

2. Q: How do I request a leave of absence?

A: Graduate student who wants to request a leave of absence ( not to exceed 30 days) should contact with the Office of Admission and Management International College and fill the “Leave of Absence Form for Graduate Student”. The request will not be valid until the approval is granted. Graduate student should get the approval from his supervisor if he requests for a maximum of 7 day leave. For student who requests more than 1 week (not to exceed 30 days) leave of absence, approval from supervisor, director of college graduate office and director of the department is required. The Leave of Absence Form should be submitted to the Office of Admission and Management International College before student’s leaving. For student who wants to request a more than 30 day leave of absence, should request a temporary suspension of schooling.

Q: How do I request temporary suspension of schooling?

A: For graduate student who could not attend class or school for more than one month, because of medical treatment, convalescence, or other reasons, should go through the formalities of requesting temporary suspension of schooling. The duration of suspension will not exceed 2 years. Students should contact with the Office of Admission and Management International College, and fill the “Student Status Change Application Form for Graduate Student”. The request will not be valid until the approval is granted. Approval from supervisor, director of college graduate office and director of the department is required. Meanwhile, the official medical diagnostic certificate should be provided if it is due to illness or medical treatment. Student must resume his study after the expiration of the temporary suspension by filling and submitting another “Student Status Change Application Form for Graduate Student” to the Office of Admission and Management International College.

3. Q: Is there any evaluation and review of my studying in Zhejiang University?

A: Yes. The university holds the study evaluation for current students every semester. Students need to fill the “Study Review Form”, which will be evaluated by supervisor, director of college/department, and submit it to the Office of Admission and Management International College.

4. Q: How to extend my study period?

A: Graduate students who are unable to finish their studies within the prescribed time and wish to prolong their studies, must fill and submit “Study Period Extending Application Form for Postgraduate Students, ZJU” to the Office of Admission and Management International College 6 months before the time frame ends. Approval from supervisor, director of college graduate office and director of the department is required. The request will not be valid until approval is granted.

5. Q: How to extend my residence permit?

A: Graduate students should extend their residence permit before it expires. Students should collect following documents: residence registration certificate (issued by the dormitory office or the local police station), proof of tuition fee payment (self-supporting students), passport, and then come to the Office of Admission and Management International College. With the certificate issued by Office of Admission and Management, students shall go to the Hangzhou City Police Entry/Exit Administration Bureau to extend their residence permit. 6. QHow can I receive my diploma after I have passed my oral defense?

A: After passing the degree thesis oral defense, qualified graduating students need to contact Office of Admission and Management International College to go through the graduation formalities. Students need to fill the “Deregistration Procedure Form for Postgraduate/Visiting Students Leaving the University”, and submit it to Graduate Office. The request will not be valid until approval is granted. Graduate students qualified for graduation shall be granted the degree certificate by their college/department. Graduate students who are allowed to conclude their studies shall be granted a graduation diploma by the International College.

7. Q: Can I get medical insurance if I am ill?

A: Full-scholarship students, students with the Scholarship which covers medical expenses, and self-supporting students who have paid the whole year tuition fee (with their time of studies exceeding 6 months), are entitled to receive the Comprehensive Medical Insurance for International Students. Please refer to the introduction and specific details on the official insurance website (www.lxbx.net), as well as the Insurance Chapter of the "International Student Handbook of Zhejiang University". Graduate students who want to get reimbursement should contact teacher who is in charge of student insurance affairs. 8. Q: How can I apply for living off-campus?

A: Graduate students who want to live off-campus, should fill and submit “Application for Off-campus Accommodation”, as well as related materials, such as lease agreement etc., to the Office of Admission and Management International College. The request will not be valid until the approval is granted. Only after being approved, students can live off-campus. Within 24 hours after move-in, students should go to the local police station with their passport to do the residence registration. Then students bring the residence registration certificate to Office of Admission and Management International College.

9. Q: My parents, relatives, wife, husband will come to China for a visit. Could the university offer invitation letter?

A: The university does not issue invitation letters for students’ family members or friends, as the inviters are student themselves, not the university. What we could offer is the student status verification form, and other related certificates. Family members could apply for visitor’s visa at the Embassy of People's Republic of China with those documents. Graduate students need to bring copies of passports of family members, official marriage certificate, birth certificate etc. to the Office of Admission and Management International College to go through the formalities. After the arrival of students’ family members, graduate students and family members have to go through the residence registration formalities according to the regulations. Graduate students need to pay an amount of fee if their relatives need to stay in campus.

10. QWhen and how will I receive the Scholarship Allowance?

A On the 1st of every month, the Scholarship Allowance will be transffered to students’ BOC cards. Students will receive the Scholarship Allowance for February and August in advance. After registering at the university, new graduate students shall go to the Bank of China Zheda Branch with their passports to open the bank account by themselves. Then students inform the Office of Admission and Management International College about their card information.

Graduate students could also authorize Office of Admission and Management to open the bank account for them. For this method, graduate students should offer Office of Admission and Management one copy of passport. Graduate students collect and activate their cards with passport or the certificate of issued passport (students who are in the process of residence permit application may not have original passports) at the Bank of China Zheda Branch.
