Application Guide for Industrial Design Engineering Master’s Degree Program 2024, Zhejiang University

INTRODUCTION

Zhejiang University is ranked among China’s leading Universities for both the quantity and quality of its master’s degree programs. Several hundred academic majors are established in colleges and departments affiliated to seven faculties of science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, information technology, humanities and social sciences. Ningbo Innovation Center, Zhejiang University was jointly built by Zhejiang University and the Ningbo Municipal People’s Government on August 1st, 2018. As a directly affiliated institution of ZJU, Ningbo Innovation Center, Zhejiang University strives to create a high-level, research-oriented, international campus that integrates research and technology transfer, relying on Zhejiang University’s high-quality educational resources.

The program will be facilitated by the International School of Design, Ningbo Innovation Center, Zhejiang University (ISD-ZJU NINGBO), which will provide master’s education and research on industrial design engineering with the cooperation of the School of Software Technology, ZJU. The Industrial Design Education program is also an incubator for bridging innovation and entrepreneurship by transforming exceptional projects and research into start-ups and supporting them to innovate and grow by providing business support resources and services, resulting in closer access to manufacturing and business.

The Industrial Design Education program welcome international students from all over the world. The program is completed in three academic years, offered in English, and located in Ningbo Innovation Center, Zhejiang University. Graduates fulfilling all the degree requirements will be awarded the master’s degree of Industrial Design Engineering, Zhejiang University.

PROGRAM CURRICULUM

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

1.  Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and valid foreign passport holders.Have a bachelor’s degree (Applicant who has not obtained the degree certificate when applying shall provide the pre-graduation certificate first, then provide the academic degree certificate no later than registration);

2. Must be under the age of 35 (Age limit is flexible for healthy applicants with certain work experience and excellent academic records);

3. In good health with no infectious disease or any physical or mental diseases that may affect normal study;

4. Language proficiency requirements：

4.1 There is no Chinese language proficiency requirement for the applicants of this English-taught program, but applicants (except for native English speakers) must have an internet-based TOEFL test score 90 or IELTS test score 6.5 or Duolingo test score 120 (or above).  The TOEFL/IELTS tests must be taken within the last 2 years.

4.2 Otherwise, applicants who received degrees from institutions where the official language of teaching is exclusively English can be accepted with appropriate proof materials.

Requirements on Citizenship

1. Applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship (including residents in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and become foreign citizens shall provide the documents certifying the cancellation of Chinese citizenship and household registration, according to the policy of the Ministry of Education of the PRC. 

2. If the applicant has acquired foreign citizenship automatically at the time of birth in a foreign country, whose parents were both Chinese citizens, or one of the parents was a Chinese citizen, parent’s (with Chinese citizenship) permanent resident in foreign country should be obtained prior to the birth of the applicant.  

  Note: If the applicant is concluded to have Chinese citizenship by the Chinese public security department after application, admission or enrollment, the applicant will be disqualified from application, admission or enrollment or withdrawal from school will be required.

DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICATION

 Applicants shall complete online registration and log into the Application System for International Student of Zhejiang University（http:/isinfosys.zju.edu.cn/recruit/login.shtml), and select School of Software Technology as First Preference College and Industrial Design Engineering (Professional) (English-taught) as First Preference Major. All the necessary application documents must be submitted strictly as required.

Applicants must clearly fill in the application form and completely submit the following materials as required.

Incomplete application materials will NOT be processed. Additional documents may be required when necessary.

Please note: There is NO need for the delivery of hard copies of the application materials. Hard copies of the application materials will NOT be reviewed and further processed. All the required materials should be scanned copies of original documents and packaged into a ZIP or RAR file. The scanned copies should be clear, in colour and complete. Please name all materials files in the order of the following request.

1. A scanned copy of passport biopage(PDF/JPG format).  The passport should be valid before December 31, 2024.

2. Highest degree certificates, which must be scanned copies of original documents or notarized copies. Applicant who has not obtained the degree certificate when applying shall provide an official pre-graduation certificate showing their student status and the expected graduation date.

3. Bachelor’s degree Academic transcripts, which must be scanned copies of original documents or notarized copies. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English. (PDF format)

4. Scanned copies of English proficiency certificates. (Not required for native English speakers. Chinese proficiency certificates are not required but are prefered as suppliments) (PDF format)

5. Personal statement, in Chinese or English, should include study or work experience, reasons for application and study proposal. No less than 1500 words. (PDF format)

6. Two letters of recommendation from full Professors or Associate Professors, in Chinese or English. (Professors’ signature, contact phone number, and email address must be put on the letter) (PDF format)

7. Published academic papers or other academic achievements. (If any) (PDF format)

8. Applicants are strongly encouraged to provide GRE, NTS-GAT test score.

9. Applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship and become foreign citizens shall provide:

   9.1 documents certifying the cancellation of Chinese citizenship,

   9.2  documents certifying the cancellation of Chinese household registration,

   9.3 documents certifying the acquirement of foreign citizenship.

10. If the applicant has acquired foreign citizenship automatically at the time of birth in a foreign country, whose parents were both Chinese citizens, or one of the parents was a Chinese citizen, please provide

    10.1 documents certifying acquiring foreign citizenship at the time of birth;

    10.2 documents certifying parent’s (with Chinese citizenship) permanent residence in foreign country before the birth of the applicant

APPLICATION DEADLINE

From now on to May 31, 2024.

SELECTION PROCESS AND DATES FOR ANNOUNCING ADMISSION RESULTS

1. The university enrollment will be made on the basis of competitive selection according to the applicants’ research ability, academic performance, language proficiency, performance during video interview, etc.

2. Admission Notice can be downloaded from the Online Application System from the end of July, 2024. Download link of the electronic Confirmation Form for Study in China (for visa) will be sent to the  permanent email address filled in the application system by the applicant.

3. Applicants will be informed about their application result via Online Application System for International Students.

FEES

1. Application Fee: RMB 800 yuan

2. Tuition: RMB 36,800 yuan /Year

3. Insurance Fee: RMB 800 yuan /Year

4. On-campus Accommodation Fee: 2,000 yuan/Year

INSURANCE

According to the Ministry of Education regulations, international students who come to our school to study for one semester or longer must purchase comprehensive insurance in mainland of China as a necessary requirement for their registration for the new semester.

The university will NOT register students who fail to purchase comprehensive insurance which meets certain requirements.

Information related to purchasing insurance will be notified in detail before registration. The admitted students should handle insurance affairs strictly according to the instructions on the notice.

Note: This insurance can NOT cover the medical treatment expense for physical or mental diseases which students suffered before coming to China.

REGISTRATION

1. Admitted applicants should strictly follow the register time in the admission notice. Admitted applicants are required to provide the original copies of academic degree certificates, academic transcripts and other relevant materials on registration day; those who fail to provide the original copies will be disqualified for the enrollment.

2. Master’s degree programs at Zhejiang University usually start at the end of August or early September every year. For exact registration dates, please refer to the Admission Notice.

ACCOMMODATION

After the registration within the specified time, new students will be assigned to dormitories according to the arrangements of Ningbo Innovation Center, Zhejiang University. And the accommodation standard for all international students is double room.
