Admission Guide for English-taught Undergraduate Engineering Programs (2025)
I. General Information
In order to further bring into play Zhejiang University’s remarkable advantages in engineering education and also the resources and strength of international talent training in the university’s Haining International Campus, and to enroll more prospective outstanding international students in engineering field, Zhejiang University offers the following English-taught undergraduate engineering programs:
1.ZJU-UIUC Institute (Link): Electrical Engineering and Automation, Electronic and Computer Engineering
2.College of Electrical Engineering: Electrical Engineering and Automation (Link)
3.College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering(Link): Electronic Science and Technology, Information Engineering.
4.College of Control Science and Engineering: Automation (Link)
5.College of Optical Science and Engineering: Optical Information Science and Engineering (Link)
Note:
1.Students who are enrolled into programs provided by the following Colleges will spend first three years of study at International Campus, Haining, and final year study at Yuquan Campus, Hangzhou, namely, College of Electrical Engineering, College of Information Science and Electronic Engineering, College of Control Science and Engineering, College of Optical Science and Engineering . Students of ZJU-UIUC Institute will complete their four-year study at International Campus, Haining.
2.Students enrolled in the above-mentioned programs can apply for a specialty transfer to any of them during their studies, but can not transfer to other undergraduate programs of Zhejiang University.
3.Students in registration of the above-mentioned programs will be granted Bachelor's Degree of Zhejiang University after successful completion of their studies.
4.Haining is a county-level city in Zhejiang Province, China, and under the jurisdiction of Jiaxing. It is 125 km (78 mi) to the southwest of central Shanghai, and 61.5 km (38.2 mi) east of Hangzhou, the provincial capital. To its south lies the Qiantang River. The city has a land area of 700.5 km (270.5 sq mi) and at the 2010 census, had a population of 806,966 inhabitants. It is in the south side of Yangtze River Delta, and in the north of Zhejiang Province.
II. Application Duration: From now on to February 28, 2025.
Deadline for certain majors is May 31. Please refer to the program catalog for details.

All the applicants must log into the Online Application System for International Students of Zhejiang University (Link), submit all the necessary application documents strictly as required and pay the application fee.
III. Application fee, Tuition & Scholarship

3.Accommodation Fee: Haining Campus: RMB 8,000 yuan/ Academic Year;
Yuquan Campus: please refer to the Life Guide(Link)on the website of the International College of Zhejiang University.
4.Way of Payment: Applicants are recommended to make the payment for application fee and tuition fee via Online Application System (Link).If one fails to make the online payment, then one MUST pay the application fee to the University’s Bank Account(Link), and upload the remittance letter to the System.
IV . Eligibility
1. General requirements
Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health. Applicants must be valid foreign passport holders and have graduated from high school (Those who provide pre-graduation certificate or student status certificate at application MUST provide senior high school diploma no later than registration) and be under the age of 25.
2. Requirements on Citizenship
Requirements of the regulations set in the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC should be met.(Link)
2.1 Applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship (including residents in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan)and become foreign citizens, must acquire foreign citizenship before April 30, 2021, and must have lived abroad more than 2 years from April 30, 2021 to April 30, 2025 (more than 9 months of residence abroad per year can be considered as one year, taking entry and exit stamps as evidence).
2.2 If the applicant has acquired foreign citizenship automatically at the time of birth in a foreign country, whose parents were both Chinese citizens, or one of the parents was a Chinese citizen, parent’s (with Chinese citizenship) permanent resident in foreign country should be obtained prior to the birth of the applicant. Applicants must have lived abroad more than 2 years from April 30, 2021 to April 30, 2025 (more than 9 months of residence abroad per year can be considered as one year, taking entry and exit stamps as evidence).
Note: If the applicant is concluded to have Chinese citizenship by the Chinese public security department after application, admission or enrollment, the applicant will be disqualified from application, admission or enrollment or withdrawal from school will be required.
3. Language proficiency requirements
3.1 Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must have HSK certificate. Specific HSK requirements could be found in the catalog of Chinese-taught undergraduate programs. Applicants whose compulsory courses were taught in Chinese during secondary education (junior and senior high school) can be exempt from submitting HSK certificate.
3.2 There are no Chinese language proficiency requirements for the applicants of English-taught programs. If applicants’ native language is not English, they should provide score report of English language test (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS/OTHER).Specific requirements could be found in the catalog of English-taught undergraduate programs
V. Documents for Application
Applicants must log in to the Online Application System for International Students of Zhejiang University (Link), fill in clearly and upload completely the original or notarized scanned copies of the following materials as required.
1. A photocopy of passportfront page.
2. Senior high school diploma. Those who provide pre-graduation certificate or student status certificate at application MUST provide senior high school diploma no later than registration.
3. Academic transcripts for all the courses in senior high school.
4. Language proficiency certificates.
5. Personal statement.
6. Two recommendation letters from high school teachers.
7. Award-winning Certificates related to academic courses during senior high school period. (If applicable)
8. Applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship and become foreign citizens shall provide:(1)Documents certifying the cancellation of Chinese citizenship (2)Documents certifying the cancellation of Chinese household registration (3)Documents certifying the acquirement of foreign citizenship (4)Exit and Entry Record on passport (5)Self-Statement Form of Nationality Status and Nationality Confirmation and Guarantee Letter.
9. Applicants who have acquired foreign citizenship automatically at the time of birth in a foreign country, whose parents were both Chinese citizens, or one of the parents was a Chinese citizen shall provide:(1) Documents certifying acquiring foreign citizenship at the time of birth (2)Documents certifying parent’s (with Chinese citizenship) permanent residence in foreign country before the birth of the applicant (3) Exit and Entry Record on passport (4)Self-Statement Form of Nationality Status and Nationality Confirmation and Guarantee Letter
10. Applicants under the age of 18 (by September 1st) should submitLetter of Guardian Guaranteeand the guardian must be an adult living in Chinese mainland.

1. The above application materials must be in Chinese or English, and notarized copies of translations must be provided for texts in other languages.
2. Please do NOT post the hard copies of the application materials or send them by email. Application materials sent by post or email will NOT be reviewed and processed.
3. Zhejiang University may ask the applicants to submit supplementary materials or take a video interview if necessary.
VI. Selection Process and Dates for Announcing Admission Results
1. The university will conduct a preliminary review of the applicant's materials. Those who pass the preliminary review will take video interview arranged by academic schools. Students are enrolled on the basis of competitive selection according to their academic performance in senior high school, language proficiency and performance in the interview,etc.
2.Applicants who receive the Pre-Admission Notice should prepay the first year tuition fee on the Online Application System within the specific time period stated on the Notice. The pre-admission will be canceled if applicants fail to prepay the first year tuition fee within the stated time period.
3. Admission Notice can be downloaded from the Online Application Systemfrom the end of June. Download link of the electronic Confirmation Form for Study in China (for visa)will be sent to the permanent email address filled in the application system by the applicant.
Notes:
1.When wiring tuition fees to the university bank account, you must fill in the application serial number, applicant’s name. Anonymous remittance will be considered a donation to the university.
2.The university would only reserve study places for students who have paid the tuition for the first academic year in advance. If students later, for personal reasons, give up schooling or apply for withdrawal procedures after registration, resulting in a vacancy in the school’s enrollment, prepaid tuition fees for the first academic year will NOT be refunded.
3.For the admitted students who are disqualified by the university as they fail to meet the school’s registration requirements, the prepaid tuition fee will NOT be refunded.
VII. Registration
1. Undergraduate programs of Zhejiang University usually start from the end of August or early September every year. For exact registration dates, please refer to the Admission Notice.
2. Admitted applicants must register with the university strictly according to the time specified in the admission notice.The original graduation certificate andoriginal language proficiency certificate will be checked upon registration. Those who fail to provide the corresponding certificates will be disqualified fromenrollment.
VIII. Medical Insurance
Fee: 800 RMB yuan/academic year
According to the regulations of Ministry of Education, international students must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in the mainland of China as a necessary requirement for their registration for the new semester.
Students who fail to purchase the comprehensive medical insurance as required will NOT be registered by the university.
Information related to purchasing insurance will be notified in detail before registration.
