On October 19th, 2015, led by the vice dean Xu Weimin, the directors of the Chinese Teaching Center Wu Jian and Shi Hong, the year-1 and year-2 undergraduates majored in Chinese and exchange students from Hannam University of South Korea, the Catholic University of South Korea, Dongduk Women’s University of South Korea, Chalermprakiet University of Thailand and Kasetsart University of Thailand, went to Thousand-island Lake to conduct the field trip and welcoming activity for new students. This activity is aimed at welcoming the arrival of new students, promoting the mutual communication between new students and old students, enriching the life of overseas students, letting them appreciate the beautiful sceneries, deepening the understanding of the Chinese culture and experiencing the interest and charm of learning and applying Chinese language.

After arriving at the destination, a brief welcoming meeting was held for new students. The vice dean Xu Weimin addressed a speech on behalf of International College to welcome the arrival of new students, encouraging all the students to make academic achievements in Zhejiang University. Afterwards, our teachers and students boarded the boat and started the cruise in Thousand-island Lake. With great interest, we visited the lock island, the theme of which is the lock culture, and learnt about all kinds of traditional Chinese lock sets. Walking on the bridge of fishing happiness, admired various fresh water fish of different size. Climbing up the dragon hill island, overlooked the sceneries of the lake and hill as well as appreciated the scarce beautiful scenery in the world. Our students took out the cameras one after another to frame the wonderful pictures. Particularly when learning that there is an ancient city under the water of the Thousand-island Lake, which was submerged because of the construction of the reservoir, our students were even more amazed.

In the wonderful scenery of Thousand-island Lake where natural sceneries contrasts finely with the human landscape, classical civilization interacts with and complements the modern science and technology, our teachers and students accomplished satisfactorily this field trip and welcoming activity for new students.
