CI at APU

The Confucius Institute at Rits umeikan Asian Pacific University(APU) is the only CI located in Kyushu area of Japan, and it was established in the year of 2007.

The CI at APU is a non-profit joint venture between APU and the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) based in Beijing. Zhejiang University is its official Chinese higher education partner.

With almost half of the faculty and student body comprised of foreign nationals from all over the world, the Rits umeikan Asian Pacific University has achieved a truly international campus environment of cultural coexistence. The CI at APU aims at promoting the education of Chinese language in the university and local community and works as a bridge for communication between the two countries.


The CI offers language courses and cultural lectures to university students and local citizens and provides classroom support for 2 primary schools. The CI works closely with the university Language Education Center.

The CI helps university students access Chinese scholarships. From 2014 to 2017, 27 students recommended by the CI was granted the Confucius Institute Scholarship to study at universities in China.

The CI is the only institution that organizes Chinese proficiency tests (HSK and HSKK) in the Kyushu area.
