1. What preparations do I need to make during the summer vacation after receiving the admission notice?

Please apply for a  student visa (Visa X1/X2) at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your home country in a timely manner. Documents required for the visa application include your valid passport, admission notice,and Confirmation Form for Study in China (also referred to as Form JW201/JW202/DQ).


Note: Students who will study in China for more than six months must enter China with a X1 visa.


Please pay attention to subsequent notices to complete procedures such as insurance purchase, accommodation application and online pre-registration. Relevant notices will be published on the official website of the International College, Zhejiang University(Link).



2. When can I book accommodation?

If you are an incoming student for this autumn intake, please follow the official website of the International College, Zhejiang University (Link). Relevant notices will be released in early August this summer; you may refer to previous notices (Link).

3. How do I complete the accommodation check-in procedures?

New students based at Hangzhou Campus

Please book your accommodation in accordance with the requirements specified in the accommodation booking notice. If you have successfully booked accommodation online, head directly to your assigned accommodation building upon registration. Proceed to the front desk of the building to finish your check-in formalities.

New students based at other campuses

If online booking is unavailable for your campus or you are a new student from another campus, no prior online operation is required. On the official registration day, go straight to the accommodation front desk of your campus to complete on-site accommodation registration and check-in procedures.

5. Will I receive a notice when accommodation booking opens?

Yes. The booking notice will  be sent to the email address you provided during your application.

 

6. I would like to know the latest time for accommodation check-in.

Apartments with 24-hour check-in service

If you have booked any of the following dormitory, you may complete check-in at any time of day or night:

  • Zijingang Campus East International Students Dormitory (Building A and B)

  • Zijingang Campus West International Students Dormitory (Building C1, C2, C3 and D)

  • Yuquan Campus Chu Kochen Hall of International Education


Apartments with restricted check-in hours

If you have booked any of the following apartments, please finish your check-in within the designated time frame:

7. Can I move into on-campus accommodation early if I arrive at the university before the registration day? What is the maximum number of days I can check in early? How will the early accommodation be charged?

Please note that all international students with confirmed dorm bookings may move into accommodation up to 3 days prior to the official registration date. Accommodation fees will be calculated based on your actual length of stay.


8. If I am a continuing student advancing to further studies at Zhejiang University, do I need to move out of my current accommodation during summer vacation, or can I stay in my original room continuously?

As an internal continuing student advancing to further studies, you are required to vacate your current accommodation and move into your new accommodation only after completing registration for the new semester.


9. Can I bring my spouse, children and other family members to China? Can the university provide documents required for their visa applications?

You may enter China together with your spouse, children and other relatives. However, university will not issue supporting documents for dependent visa applications. You shall apply for their visas on your own.After entry, if your family members need residence permits, you may consult and apply for them directly at the Exit and Entry Administration Bureau.

10. Can my family get accommodation arranged?

No, we do not provide family accommodation. You need to arrange it by yourself.


11. How do I apply for a residence permit after arriving on campus? What documents do I need to prepare?

The university will provide you with an operation guide for residence permit application after your arrival, and you may submit your application following the instructions. You can prepare the following documents in advance:

  1. Your original passport

  2. Confirmation Form for Study in China (Form JW201 or JW202);

  3. One duplicate copy of the Admission Notice;

  4. One recent 2-inch photo of the applicant (front, bareheaded, with a white background);

  5. The Certificate of Verification of Physical Examination Record for Foreigners & Overseas Chinese, which is required for students who will study for more than 6 months;

  6. Residence registration certification issued by dormitory office (for students dwelling on campus);

  7. Temporary residence registration certification issued by the local police station, which is required for students dwelling off campus;

  8. A certification of completion of study, a transcript and a certificate of class attendance issued by the student's former school in China, which is required for those with residence permits issued by the city where the student's former school is located.

12. Do I still need to apply for student visa if I am eligible for visa-free entry?

In accordance with relevant regulations, anyone coming to China for academic studies is required to obtain the corresponding X1 or X2 student visa. 13. Can I enter the country with a tourist visa first and then switch to a student visa later?

14. Do I need to apply for a bank card? Which type of bank card should I get?

To ensure the smooth disbursement of various scholarships and grants for students during their studies:

- Undergraduates are recommended to apply for a Bank of China (BOC) card

- Postgraduates are recommended to apply for an Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) card

After card application, bind the bank card to your student ID number.
