On March 19, 2026, Prof. Carlege Masso, an alumnus of Zhejiang University’s International College from Burundi, returned to his alma mater for a visit. He was warmly welcomed by CHEN Nanfei and CHEN Weiying, Vice Dean of the International College; and Lu Zhengzhong, Executive Vice President of the International College Alumni Association. The meeting provided an opportunity to reconnect, reflect on shared memories, and discuss future development.

Prof. Masso has maintained a longstanding connection with Zhejiang University. He earned his bachelor's degree from Zhejiang Agricultural University (now Zhejiang University) in 1993 and later received his graduate degree from Zhejiang University in 1999. During the meeting, he fondly recalled his years of study at the university and shared insights into his professional journey after graduation.

Prof. Masso currently serves as Director of Environment, Health and Biodiversity under the Impact Area Platform at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), a CGIAR research center. In this role, he leads global engagement, science-based advocacy, and cross-regional learning initiatives. Prior to joining CGIAR, he conducted research on natural resource management at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and carried out postdoctoral research and fertilizer efficacy evaluation work at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, respectively. His distinguished international career reflects the global impact and achievements of ZJU alumni.

In welcoming Prof. Masso back to campus, CHEN Nanfei noted that alumni are among the university’s most valuable assets and serve as important bridges connecting ZJU and the world. She expressed hope that Prof. Masso would continue to engage with his alma mater, bringing back international perspectives and sharing ZJU’s latest developments with fellow alumni around the globe.

LU Zhengzhong introduced the university’s recent achievements, particularly in strengthening its overall academic excellence, advancing international education, and expanding alumni engagement initiatives.

The visit further strengthened the bond between the alumnus and his alma mater while laying the groundwork for future exchanges and collaboration. Looking ahead, the International College will continue to promote the “Study@ZJU” brand, strengthen connections with alumni worldwide, and draw upon the collective strength of its global alumni community to support the university in its pursuit of world-class excellence.
