Culture+ | Voices Across Borders: The 4th International Students’ Talk Held Successfully

Recently, the 4th “Voices of Zhejiang” International Students’ Talk organized by International Student Art Group was successfully held in Lecture Hall 414, Yaokun Building, Zijingang Campus. More than 30 international students from Panama, Slovakia, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and other countries participated in this event. Through debates, interactive discussion, Q&A sessions and open discussion, the event created a lively atmosphere filled with interesting conversations, long-lasting applause and laughter, earning widespread praise from both teachers and students.


Session 1: Global Perspectives

In the first session, contestants from 7 countries shared and discussed their understanding of the concept of “home”. With vivid stories and engaging images, they explained what home means to them, while comparing family values, living traditions and expressions of family affection in their home countries with those in China. Their presentations showed insightful observations from diverse cultural perspectives. Through these exchanges, participants deepened their mutual understanding, embraced cultural differences with an open mind and discovered shared values across cultures.


As the Session 1 ended, members of International Student Art Group performed two songs, which beautiful melodies helped ease the tension of the competition.



Session 2: Six-Party Forum

After the first round, 6 contestants advanced to the second session, “Six-Party Forum”. This session was conducted as a round-table discussion; participants were free to choose either the affirmative or the negative side based on their views.

Debate Motion: 

Artificial intelligence is changing the way people live. Is it an opportunity or a challenge?

The contestants first presented their views in turn, demonstrating clear reasoning, strong evidence, excellent reasoning and public speaking skills. During the open debate session, they exchanged their ideas passionately and challenged each other's arguments. The lively exchange of ideas, enriched by participants' diverse cultural backgrounds, became the highlight of the event.

 While waiting for the final result, students Zhang Qien and Xie Yilin from the International Student Art Group performed the song “世界第一等”. Their performance helped relax the tension in the room and also added a warm touch to this event.

 After rounds of discussion, the competition concluded with the selection of the Champion. First Runner-up, Second Runner-up and Outstanding Performance Award winners. Through exciting ideas exchange, participants also gained deeper insights into technology, society and culture.

This cross-cultural celebration was not only a stage for international students to express themselves, but also a vivid testament to the diverse and inclusive community at Zhejiang University. The 4th International Students Talk has come to a successful conclusion!  Congratulations to all the award winners, and sincere thanks to all teachers and students for the support and participation. We look forward to meeting again, hearing more voices from young people around the world, and watching the spirit of intercultural exchange continue to flourish across Qiushi Campus.
