Recently, the 2026 “Doctoral Symposium: Experiencing China – All Great Minds in Wuhan University”, organized by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and hosted by Wuhan University, was successfully held in Wuhan. Centred on the theme “Digital Empowerment, Ecological Stewardship, and Global Governance” the symposium brought together doctoral students and scholars from universities across China for academic exchange and dialogue.

Zhejiang University (ZJU) was represented by two Pakistani doctoral students majoring in Chinese Law, MUHAMMAD MURAD ZAIB BUTT and Bakhtawar Manzoor. Their participation demonstrated ZJU's academic strengths in the fields of the rule of law and digital governance.

During the academic presentation session, MUHAMMAD MURAD ZAIB BUTT delivered a presentation entitled “Green Digital Sovereignty: Empowering the Rule of Law, Ecological Protection, and Shared Prosperity in the Era of Artificial Intelligence Governance.” In his presentation, he introduced the innovative concept of “Green Digital Sovereignty,” arguing that digital sovereignty should extend beyond data security and privacy protection to encompass ecological responsibility and sustainable development.

By examining existing regulatory gaps, comparing governance models across different countries, and discussing Pakistan's opportunities for digital development, he proposed practical pathways for advancing the rule of law, ecological protection, and mutually beneficial global cooperation.

In addition to the academic sessions, the two students actively participated in group discussions, academic exchanges, and a field visit to the Qingshan Wetland Ecological Environment Public Welfare Restoration Base, where they gained first-hand insights into China's achievements in integrating ecological conservation, the rule of law, and digital governance.

Looking ahead, Zhejiang University will continue to encourage and support international students in participating in high-level academic activities, further promote cross-cultural and interdisciplinary international collaboration, and contribute ZJU's expertise to advancing global governance, the rule of law, and sustainable ecological development.
