According to the laws of China, foreigners holding study residence permits who wish to participate in off-campus work-study activities must obtain approval from their school before applying to immigration authorities for additional information regarding work-study locations and durations on their residence permits. Failure to comply will be deemed illegal employment and may result in penalties.
The procedures for international students of Zhejiang University to apply for the work-study endorsement on their residence permits are as follows:
I. Eligibility Requirements
1. Full-time international students officially registered at Zhejiang university;
2. Comply with China laws and regulations, school rules and regulations, and relevant management regulations for international students, with good conduct;
3. The applicant study hard, with academic progress and attendance rates meeting school requirements;
4. International students applying for work-study endorsement should have been continuously studying at the school for more than one year, hold a valid study residence permit and have at least 6 months remaining on their permit.
5. Students applying for the work-study endorsement can choose positions that have no relation to their major. However, they are not allowed to do jobs in entertainment venues such as bars and nightclubs, nor can they work in related positions in the entertainment industry or the education sector.
6. The relevant information of international students participating in work-study activity must be approved by their supervisors/class advisors/counselors and the their college.
II. Application Materials
(I) Materials provided by the applicant:
1.Passport
2.Valid accommodation registration form
3.A 2-inch white-background bareheaded photograph (can also be taken on-site at the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau at your own expense)
4."Work-study Endorsement Application Form" with handwritten signature (Attachment 1)
(II) Materials issued by the work-study unit:
1. Copy of business license of the work-study unit
2. "Official Letter of Acceptance from work-study unit" (Attachment 2)
3. Work-study Contract
(III) Materials issued by the International College:
1. Work-study Statement issued upon approval by the International College
2. "Application Letter for International Students" issued after approval by International College
III. Application Process
1. Work-study qualification confirmation
International students who wish to engage in work-study activities must obtain the consent of their supervisors/class advisors/counselors as well as the teaching department/academic affairs office of their college. They should then contact the work-study units themselves to obtain positions.
2.Prepare relevant documents
International students should prepare their own application materials except those that need to be issued by International College.
3. Make a application in system
Access the "International Student Management System"(https://intlstudent.zju.edu.cn/isstu/)→ "Application for Work-study" to complete and upload the required documents;
4.Get the "Work-study Statement"
After the applicant contacts the counselor to complete the online review and it is approved, they can download the "Work-study Statement" by themselves through the "Work-study Application" module "Application Record", and then go to the teaching office/teaching affairs office of the their college to obtain the signature and seal, and then go to the International College to obtain the signature and seal.
5. Obtain the "Application Letter for International Students "
Enter the "Visa Application" in system, select the application for endorsement, and fill in the relevant information. After the applicant contacts the counselor to complete the review and it is approved, they should go to the Student Affairs Office of the International College to collect the "Application Letter for International Students".
6. Go to the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau to apply for a work-study endorsement
Bring all the application materials to the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau of Hangzhou Public Security Bureau on their own to apply for the work-study endorsement.
IV. Announcements
1. Procedures for changing work-study units
If international students change their work-study placements, they must reapply for the work-study endorsement.
2. Duration of work-study endorsement procedures
Please complete the work-study endorsement procedures 30 days in advance. The processing of work-study endorsement for residence permits typically requires 8 to 15 working days. International students must obtain the work-study endorsement for residence permits before commencing their work-studys.
3. Handling of studying status changes during the work-study period
If international students experience academic status changes such as withdrawal from studies or leave of absence during the work-study period, their study residence permits must be revoked in accordance with regulations.
4. Maintenance and revocation of work-study qualifications
If international students frequently miss classes, experience a significant drop in grades, violate school rules and regulations or China's laws and regulations during their work-study, the school may revoke their work-study eligibility, and relevant departments may impose penalties including visa cancellation in accordance with the law.
5. Description of the work-study location
The work-study positions for international students must be located within the jurisdiction of Hangzhou City.
6. Explanation of work-study duration
Each period of work-study activity shall not exceed the duration of the study-related residence permit, and shall be no longer than one year. The working hours for work-study activity shall not exceed 8 hours per week and 40 hours per month. During winter and summer vacations, the working hours shall not exceed 16 hours per week and 80 hours per month.
7.Explanation of relevant fees
Fees for processing residence permit extensions and related procedures shall be borne by the applicant.
