The First ��International Cup�� Football Competition was Launched in Ocean College, ZJU

From October 13 to 14, the first ��InternationalCup�� football competition was launched on the playground of Zhoushan campus,ZJU, which was hosted by the International Student Association. There were fourteams took part in the competition. They were the overseas student footballteam of Ocean College, ZJU, the Chinese student football team of Ocean College,East China Sea team of Zhoushan city and the faculty football team of ZhejiangOcean University.     Despite the heavy rain, nearly 50 players gatheredhere, some of them just returned from Hangzhou with their passion for football.Some of the remaining students were accompanied throughout the tournament incustom ball suits, cheering and cheering.     After two days and four rounds of fierce competition, Zhejiang Ocean University's faculty football team won the championship with a 2:1 victory over the Chinese students' football team of Ocean College, and the foreign students' football team also beat the East China Sea team by a 5-2 advantage to win the third place.     Passion is glowing on the ground; the youth is shining on the dream.     On the morning of October11th, the press conference and launching ceremony of the 11th ��Chinese Bridge�� ChineseProficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students was held atYunnan Normal University. The competition themed with ��Learn Chinese, Double Your World�� was co-hostedby Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the People��s Government of Yunnan Province andorganized by Yunnan Provincial Education Department, Yunnan Normal Universityand Yunnan Radio and Television Station.     The competition was attended by 216 contestants and 111 team-leadingteachers from 110 divisions of 99 countries throughout the world, which made itthe largest event compared with previous ones, with the largest number ofparticipating countries and participants. Celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival by Chinese and Int��l Students together on Qizhen Lakeside

    The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional festival in China��on which people like to extend greetings to their relatives and friends to share the joy of the festival and make happy moments.     Since the Moon Festival is at harvest time, it is a good occasion to celebrate the abundance of Mother Nature. Moon Festival is a time to gather with family and friends under the full moon sky while eating moon cake. A bright moon and stars twinkle and shine. The roundest moon can be seen in the autumn. It is time for reunions.     In special day like today, the special Mid-Autumn festival, we hold this beautiful event which was successfully concluded with the present of our nice friends from all over the world. We talked about how beautiful and meaningful the point of the festival. We appreciated the story of Chang E which is one of the most knowable stories of this festival.     We played some traditional games, our friends helped each other by teaching each other how to play these games .     I observed the smile and laughter of our friends, everyone were playing, chatting.We shared our laughter we made new friends, everyone else also were able to practice their languages with their new friends����people got to know new culture, tried new food, played games with new friends����     And the most interesting part was when everyone were so excited to try the moon cake. While we were looking at the beautiful bright moon we enjoyed eating the moon cake.     I want to make a toast. And I would like to wish that the round moon take my best blessing to you. International Students of Zhejiang University Show Cheongsam to the World

    On September 26th, the "2018 Hangzhou Global Cheongsam Day" home event kicked off at the West Lake Long Bridge. 49 international students from Zhejiang University wore designer cheongsams and exhibited youthfulness in the natural show of West Lake.     Prior to this, the students had participated in the cheongsam training camp, learned the history, culture, and dressing etiquette of the cheongsam, and also personally experienced the weaving and tie-dying of silk. For everyone, the charm of this costume was not only kept in the cognition of a beautiful dress.     Therefore, we could see that these girls of different skin colors and cultural backgrounds, with their understanding of cheongsam and love of Chinese culture, showed different styles of cheongsam - some as gentle as the wind of the West Lake, some as clear as the water of the West Lake, and some were so warm like the green trees and red flowers, some were so bright as the blue sky. They took the silk fan and the paper umbrella. They were confident and enthusiastic. They walked on the bluestone bridge then walked into the painting of the West Lake. This painting mixed with the refreshing ink and the bright colors of the oil paint, what was really a masterpiece of the fusion of Chinese and Western.     For students, this event is not only a chance to learn Chinese culture, but also a stage to show their charm to the world. It is also to let them immerse themselves in this painting and touch the cultural temperament beyond the painting. Mid-Autumn Tea Celebration

    The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on 15th August of the lunar calendar inChina. In ancient times, Chinese people worshiped the moon, ate moon cakes and enjoyed beautiful lanterns. It is a traditional festival for all family members especially for the people away from their hometown.     On 24th September, ITCC of Zhejiang University held a tea celebration for Mid-Autumn Festival this year. International students from different countries got together to celebrate the Chinese traditional festival. Deputy dean of the International College of Zhejiang University Zhengzhong Lu, and Wen Ye, Huiling Shi from Student Affairs Office also took part in the celebration.     At this meaningful night, all the participants enjoyed different tea and stories. They shared stories from their own countries about the moon and also made the Mid-Autumn lanterns together. Everyone in this celebration got so much knowledge of tea customs from different countries.     At the end of the activity, everyone took photos with their works and new friends. Tea is just like a bridge which makes the communication between different cultures more harmonious and smooth. The coexistence and mutual learning between different cultures will bring us more wonderful products.

2018 Undergraduate Students Participated in the Orientation

Orientation 2018 for newundergraduate students was held in the East 2-101 classroom at Zijingang Campuson September 12, 2018. The purpose of this activity is to help internationalstudents smoothly adapt to the new university life. Freshmen Majoring in Chinese Language Participates in a Group Counseling Session

    Onthe afternoon of September 16, a group counseling session was held in Room 313of Asian Youth Center in Zijingang Campus by Wang Sainan and Shen Dan ofStudent Affairs Office to help freshmen majoring in Chinese language betteradapt to campus life. More than 30 freshmen participated in the activity.     Thestudents were divided into 5 groups in random. Under the guidance of teachers,each group decided an interesting group name and designed a logo throughdiscussion and invited a group member to give a presentation. On September 10, Zhejiang University welcomed incoming international students to campus. They will embark on their new journey full of admiration for the Chinese culture and the university. Vice President HE Lianzhen extended her cordial welcome to students. She amiably asked them about their accommodation in the International Student Residential Hall. ��If you have any queries about the dormitory, we will try every means to help you out,�� she said reassuringly. Marcus is from England. One of his friends, who participated in the UK University Students Study China Programme, told him that ZJU was really awesome, so he applied for a one-year program to learn Chinese with curiosity and aspiration. ��I feel great here. The pace of life is not too fast, which makes me very comfortable. I look forward to my study and life here at ZJU,�� said Marcus. ��I am very glad that I��ve got the opportunity to study at ZJU with the Confucius Institute scholarship,��said Monica in gratitude. Monica graduated from the University of Wroclaw in Poland and was admitted to the master��s program of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. ZJU Hosts 11th UK University Students Study China Programme

The theme that ��The 11th is the New 1st�� embraces a brand new beginning and fidelity to the original aspiration. On August 13, approximately 120 students from 40 UK universities participated in the 11th UK University Students Study China Programme at Zhejiang University. HE Lianzhen, Vice President of Zhejiang University delivered opening remarks. She introduced to UK students the history and culture of Zhejiang University and shared her own experience in the UK. Her humorous speech resonated with all the participants and was greeted with rapturous applause. Since 2008, our university has hosted 11 editions of the UK University Students Study China Programme. Many world-renowned UK universities, including Oxford, King��s College, University College London, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Manchester and the University of Leeds, participated in the programme. The year 2018 marks a new beginning of the next ��decade��. It is expected that higher-level and larger-scale cooperation between Chinese and UK students will be promoted.

ITCC Held Activities for Dragon Boat Festival

Some members from 8 different countries of the International Tea Culture Club of Zhejiang University attended the activities for Dragon Boat Festival �C Tour to the China National Tea  Museum and Festival Tea Celebration on June 17. China National Tea Museum is the only national museum specializing in tea and tea culture in China. It is located in Hangzhou, on the west part of West Lake. The museum is divided into three exhibition halls; the World Tea Exhibition Hall, the Hall of Tea Industry Branding and the Longjing Tea Exhibition hall. There are small pavilions outside the exhibition halls in order for tourists to enjoy the green and tea. World Tea Exhibition Hall exhibits how is tea becoming worldwide spread from China and the different tea cultures all around the world. Hall of Tea Industry Branding exhibits brands and the origins of most of the famous Chinese teas in history. It was telling the whole story of the development of Chinese tea brands, which reveals the achievements China has made in Tea industry. Longjing Tea Exhibition Hall tells the history of Longjing Tea. When visiting the World Tea exhibition hall, many members could see an introduction of the tea culture in their own country and they would introduce the tea culture of their own country to others passionately. The collision between different cultures and customs has deepened the members' understanding of the world tea culture. After museum tour, ITCC held the Dragon Boat Festival Tea Celebration in Qiushi Tea Garden. We distributed the colorful rope and the fragrant bag to everyone. The colorful rope was considered to have the function of exorcising evil spirits and welcoming good luck. Wearing fragrant bag has the meaning of exorcising evil spirits. We take this opportunity to express our heartfelt wishes for the recipient of "no disease, no disaster, with happiness and good health". Members of the club bring their own special tea, and refreshments to share with all of us. Among these were West Lake Longjing tea described as "green and fragrant, flat and straight", Mongolian milk tea which is "fresh and salty with acid and cheese", Tanyanggongfu, which is "strong and fresh with longan flavor", and JinJunmei tea which is "soup with golden color and sweetness at the entrance". At the tea party, the members were happy to talk. Tea drinks with distinctive flavors added to the interest. They were amazed by Zongzi, a traditional Chinese food, and expressed satisfaction with the atmosphere of the tea party. They also expressed the hope that the next event arrives soon. Lecture on Chinese Tea and Tea Culture held Successfully

The first activity of ITCC��International Tea Culture Club�� was organized on held May 8, Ms. Chen Ping, associate Professor of the Department of Tea Science delivered a lecture on Chinese Tea and Tea Culture. The lecture attracted nearly 60 international students from more than 30 countries.Lu zhengzhong vice dean of the International College,Tu Youying, director of the department of tea science and associate professor Ye Jianhu attended the lecture. The lecture was hosted by Lu. He said that ITCC was jointly set up by the International College and the Department of Tea Science. It aims to build a platform for tea lovers to communicate and learn Chinese tea, understand the world��s rich and colorful tea custom, enhance friendship and promote the integration of Chinese and foreign students. Prof. Chen then talked about Chinese tea from the history of the rise of drinks in the world, to "Tea became a national drink, and Hangzhou is the city of tea". Tea is a name card of Hangzhou, and also a reflection of Chinese culture. It was like travelling all over China through learning the six categories of tea (green tea, black tea, yellow tea, dark tea, white tea, oolong tea) and tea production areas. 5000 year Chinese history was unfolded in front of students through learning the development history of tea.
