The first International Football tournament

    On Saturday, November 3rd, ISU hosted the first International Football tournament for both boys and girls, in cooperation with the Zhejiang University Student��s Football Association(ZJUSFA). There were 18 teams (6 female and 12 male teams) consisting of 60 female and 120 male players from over 50 countries.     For the Girls Tournament, a team of Chinese girls (The Zheda Girls), won the gold with their amazing football skills, beating all the teams convincingly with a total of 28 goals. A team from Yuquan Campus (West Lake Women), with one Chinese player and mostly European Players came second; finally, a team with girls from Pacific countries (K Queen) came in third place. Everyone in the crowd were excited to watch girls play in a football tournament for the first time.     For the Boys Tournament, it was a very tight competition where a Yemenis Team, an African team, a Korean team, and a diverse team of many nationalities (Team Spirit) consisting of Indian, Australian, Canadian, Egyptian, Malian, and Haitian nationalities emerged as the 4 finalists. In the end, the African team won the final by beating the Yemen team in a penalty shootout, with Team Spirit winning the Bronze prize.     For Individual awards, on the female side, Chinese player, Zhao Ying (West Lake Women) won the best Female player after scoring 12 Goals. On the men��s side, Yemen player, Jaman Muath, won the best Male player after scoring 8 goals. This tournament allowed International students to showcase their excellent football skills and abilities, giving a great opportunity for Chinese students to meet and exchange football skills with their international peers.Hoping us progress hand in hand ,creating the best!

Outstanding CSC scholarship students participated in the activity of Perception of China Capital Tour

    200 Outstanding CSC scholarship students from Germany, Russia, Italy, South Korea and other 60 countries, now they are studying at the universities in 15 provinces and cities of China, gathered in Beijing and participated in the third ��Perception of China•Capital Tour�� activity which was held by China Scholarship Council from 5th to 8th, November 2018. Seven Students of Zhejiang University, who was awarded the CSC Outstanding International Student Scholarship in the year of 2018 took part in the activity.    During the activity, the 2018 annual awards ceremony of series of activities of international students was held grandly. Mr. TEO KAI DIK, Malaysian student of the School of Management of our university, came to the stage to receive the award as the only representative of the students in Zhejiang Province. Mr. CHOI SANGBEOM, Korean student of School of International Studies of our university, accepted the interview of the Guangming Daily, he said that he had achieved a lot during his study in Zhejiang University: ��I am very fond of the life and learning atmosphere in Zhejiang University, Hangzhou is an international city, I can meet friends from all over the world here, so I like here very much.��    In addition, the international students visited the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Memorial Hall ��atomic bomb, hydrogen bomb and the artificial satellite�� ( which refers to ��liangdanyixing�� in Chinese briefly) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Zhongguancun Pioneering Park and other government departments, scientific research institutions, companies and enterprises. Through visiting, international students got a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of China��s political, economic, technological as well as agricultural development. International Students of Zhoushan Campus, ZJU Participated in the 4th Study Tour of Marine Scholarship of China in Ocean University of China

    On November 5, the opening ceremony of the 4th study tour of Marine Scholarship of China was held in the first meeting room of the library of Laoshan campus, Ocean University of China, which was sponsored by Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Natural Resources of the People��s Republic of China. Liu Min, the deputy dean of School of International Education, OUC, presided over the opening ceremony, and then professor Qin Shanghai from the School of International Education and professor Sheng Lifang from the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences made the speeches. Afterwards, teacher representatives and students from Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Xiamen University and Ocean University of China, and the teacher from Harbin Engineering University gave speeches respectively.      There were 60 international students from Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Xiamen University, Harbin Engineering University and Ocean University of China participated in the tour, including 14 marine scholarship students from seven countries and 2 teacher representatives of ZJU. One of the students from ZJU made an academic exchage about the theme of ��the past, present and future of ocean��.     From 5 to 8 November, the teachers and students experienced the oceanographic research technology and ocean survey virtual simulation training, visited the library of OUC, National Deep Sea Center, Pilot Qingdao National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology, the First Institute of Oceanography, SOA, Qingdao International Sailing Center and the Site of SCO 2018 Summit, OUC research vessel, Yushan campus of OUC, Governor General��s Residence and Tsingtao Beer Museum, started a blue journey to experience the charming ocean, scientific and technological development and urban culture of China, along with enjoying the humanity and natural beauty of Qingdao.      The four-day study tour has extended a bond of friendship between overseas students from four universities around the world, and the academic exchanges have touched off sparks of ideas. 2018 Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program Orientation

On the morning of November 6, the orientation of the 2018Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP) was held at the Asian YouthCenter of Zijingang Campus. Prof. UCHIDA, President of Bai Xian Asia Institute(BXAI), with his delegation of BXAI was invited to the ceremony. It was alsoattended by Prof. Tang Xiaowu, Vice Dean of the International College, DangYing, Deputy Secretary-General of Zhejiang University Education Foundation,Prof. Wang Yizhong of the School of Economics, Associate Professor Gao Xiang ofthe School of Public Affairs, the 2018 cohort, and 6 students of the class of2017. The Ocean College Zhejiang University��2nd International Competition on Friday 26th October

This year��s 2nd International badminton competition was held at the sport center of Ocean College. There were almost 23 teams from 8 different nationalities participating in the event which had 5 divisions, Men Single, Female Single, Men��s' Doubles, Females' Doubles and Mixed Doubles. In men single competition, there were 8 men; they played 4 separate games against each other. After a thrilling game, Junaid, Liao and Khan were in top 3 in an extremely tight game. They played very well and professionally. In female single competition, there were 4 teams; they played 4 separate games against each other. After a competitive game, Fei, Elna and Feng were in top 3. For the men��s doubles, there were 8 teams and 4 teams headed to the semi-final, at this point of the game there were elimination section where the standing two teams made it to the final round. With the strong motivated and energetic team, Khan and Junaid were the winter of this category. For female��s doubles, there were 3 teams but unfortunately one team forfeited, hence the other two teams head to the finale. In Mixed double competition, there were 8 and 4 teams headed to the semi-final, at this point of the game there were elimination section where the standing two teams made it to the final round. With the strong motivated and energetic team, Zhou and Feng were the winter of this category. For the overall game, different participants as well as teams display an array of talent. Participants were able to work well with a team while others work better of as individual player. Thus far, Pakistani player such as Junaid, Khan, Farhan and Agha, Indonesian player such as Andrif, Farah and Ashar as well as Chinese player like Zhao, Liao, Li and Feng display an array of talent. Meanwhile other countries such as Cambodia (KY), Philippine (Robert & Elna), Guyana (Maria), Nigeria (Sam, Opi, Charles, Rasheed), and Bangladesh ( Mahadi) also try their best although they are mutual players. New Era, My Voice

    ��The new era, let's enjoy it! �� The international studentsspeech competition and the qualifying test of the 15th ��Zijingang Cup�� Mandarincompetition of Zhejiang University, was successfully held on October 25th.     After the primary selection, a total of 23international students from 11 countries took part in the competition. Dr. GaoNing and Dr. Lv Yanxing, two Chinese Language teachers, and Xing Han, thechampion of Zhejiang Province Youth Speech contest, acted as judges. Inaddition, Lu Zhengzhong, Vice Dean of International College, Ye Wen, WangSainan and Shen Dan, counsellors of international students attended the event.     With "China in the eyes of internationalstudents in this new era" as the speech��s theme, from their ownexperiences and different perspectives, the contestants told their audiencewhat they learned, what they felt and what they thought about the new age ofChina, ranging from the development of China since the reform and opening-updays to the beautiful mountain and water of Zhejiang province, from theirexperience of studying in Zhejiang University to their understanding about thebeauty of Chinese language, and so on.     Xie Yunni fromIndonesia, Chen Ruijie fromCambodiaand Christian from Congo-kinshasa won the first prize in the speech competition. ZJU Alumnus Honored with the West Lake Friendship Award

The 2018 ceremony ofthe Zhejiang Government West Lake Friendship Award was held inHangzhou on the afternoon of October 30. Fifty foreign experts from 17countries working in Zhejiang province, including a ZJU alumnus Imran HaiderShamsi, received the honorable award. Imran was met by Yuan Jiajun, DeputySecretary of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Governor ofZhejiang Province. Imran, who is from Pakistan, came to Zhejiang University in 2002 to learn from Prof. Zhang Guoping in the Agricultural College, and worked as a postdoc in the university after receiving his PhD in 2006. He served as a teacher in September of 2012, becoming the first full-time foreign expert of Zhejiang University, and was promoted to associate professor in 2015. Imran has been alwaysdedicated to the education in Zhejiang University with a grateful heart. Heregards teaching as a vocation and has made unique contribution as a foreignexpert. While undertaking a large number of scientific research tasks, hedevoted himself to research into teaching content and teaching methods,actively interacted with students and was deeply loved by them. He also won thehonorary title of ��Excellent Class Teacher��. In 2016, Imran won thefirst prize in the engineering group of the Third National Young Teachers��Teaching Competition. When interviewed by the media, he expressed his passionfor Zhejiang University, saying ��I am made in, made by and made for ZhejiangUniversity��. Knowing the Roots, Embracing the Future Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program, Zhejiang University Field Trip to Shaoxing and Taizhou

    On 26 to 28 of October 2018,11 scholars from the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program andteachers from the International College office, Zhejiang University visitedseveral places in Zhejiang Province, such as Shaoxing and Taizhou. The 11 scholarshailed from different countries in East Asia (Japan, Korea), Central Asia(Afghanistan), and Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore).     On 26th October, the teachers and studentsvisited Luxun Native Place to learn and understandmore about Luxun, the pen name of Zhou Shuren (25 September 1881 �C 19 October1936). He was highly admired by Mao Zedong whocalled him ��the saint of modern China��. The Luxun Native Place is the place where Mr.     Lu Xun was born and grew up.It includes the ancestral residence of LuXun, the former residence of Lu Xun, theBaicao Garden, the Sanwei Study, and other places where Lu Xun lived andstudied in his childhood. At the end of the day, we also visited Lu Xun Memorial Hallwhich exhibited the 56 years of Lu Xun��s short but brilliant life and his legacy incontemporary China.     On the second day of the field trip, the group traveledto Tiantai Mountain in Taizhou. On the way, the group made a stop for lunch ata local restaurant to try delicious localgastronomy. The trip then continued to GuoqingTemple (a Buddhist temple) on Tiantai Mountain. This temple significantlyinfluenced the teachings of Buddhism in several countries in East and SoutheastAsia, including China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. The Guoqing Temple itself wasbuilt in 598 AD in the  influences on Buddhist teachings in other countries.     The trip ended with a visit toa small village in Taizhou. This village boastsfantastic scenery and has been a centre for practising��Yijin Jing��, a manual containinga series of physical and breathing exercises toimprove the stamina and physical health when practised consistently. Literally in Chinese, yi means ��change��, jin means ��tendons andsinews��, while jing means ��methods��. We had theopportunity to learn and practise the YijinJing directly from anexpert, whois also headof the village. We were impressed with the warm welcome.     This field trip provided an excellent opportunity to gleana deep understanding of Chinese roots, histories, cultures and communities for us as internationalstudents in China. Each of us has a different background of nationality and culture,but from this trip, we learnt similarities of culture, religion and even humanity. We believe that through understanding cultural roots and histories, we can learn from the past to embrace a better future. Last but not least, Bai Xian��s motto of ��building bridges across cultures�� was successfully reflected in this rewarding field trip.

Sunshine Long-distance Run, a Road of Beauty.

    In the morning of October 26th, 2018 ZhejiangUniversity��s sport meeting was held in the Big East tracking field, Zijingangcampus. After a brief opening ceremony, accompanied by the sound of drums andcheerful music, the university's teachers and students opened the SunshineLong-distance Run.     International College in The Sunshine Long-distanceRun was presented by a team of 30 international students from 16 countries,including Canada, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Yemen, Vanuatu, Nepal,Mongolia, Cambodia, Somalia, Congo (DRC), and 20 teachers from the college.  Wearing red tracksuits as the uniform, allparticipants were in high spirits, and led by flag holder Christian started theSunshine Long-distance Run.     Running across the familiar campus in the early hoursof the morning, breathing fresh air gives unforgettable mental calmness andphysical strength. It took more than half an hour to get from the start pointin the Big East tracking field though the Medical College, Nanometre buildingand library to the end point-Big canteen. All teachers and students had managedto reach the end. The Sunshine Long-distance Run has demonstrated and enhancedgood relationships between teachers and students in International College. TheSunshine Long-distance Run has inspired teachers and students in the wholecollege to pay more attention to their health, increase the amount of physicalactivities in their ordinary life, strengthen physical fitness and startleading a healthy lifestyle. The International Students Visited Zhoushan Museum

    In order to get a better sense of Chinese culture and understand the history of Zhoushan, at 2:00 p.m. on October 24th, a group of more than 20 students from Zhoushan campus, Zhejiang University took a bus to Zhoushan museum to study.     The tour began with a series of "Beautiful Homeland - Zhoushan Natural Display" on the first floor of the museum, including three parts, "Islands Tour," "Wild Zhoushan" and "Blue Treasure". Through ancient zoo-fossil, animal and insect specimen, the island formation process, natural environment and resource reserves were shown.     In addition, the tour guide also led the students to enjoy the vibrant features of birds in Wu Zhi Island, the morphological features of the small deer mammal roe, the new wood ginger, city flower daffodils and so on. In the "Blue Treasure" section, the overseas students had close contact with four famous snails (whelk, wanbao, conch,nautilus), steamed crab, Chinese sturgeon and other Marine creatures.Later, the students moved to the second floor of the exhibition hall about Zhoushan folk customs.     The display was divided into six units, "Cultivated Sea Fishing", "Boiled Sea Salt", "Fishing and the Customs", "Fishing Harbor Street", "Fishery Processing" and "The Fishing Ship", which vividly displayed the people's customs in recent years. Local features such as temple fairs and puppet shows had sparked heated discussions among students.     Finally, they moved to the third exhibition hall, "Zhoushan Islands and Past History", to have a visit of five parts, ��islands Ancient Local People", "Story in East of Ningbo", "WengShan Chang Country", "Pillars" and "Tide Started from Islands". In order to celebrate the 40th anniversaryof China��s reform and opening-up, 2018(autumn) China Higher Education Expo washeld in Chengdu from October 19 to 20. The Recruitment Meeting for Overseas Students by CSCEC

On the 13th of October ��The recruitment meeting for overseas students�� was hold by China Construction Eighth Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) on Zijingang campus. Short introduction of CSCEC, its short history and features, perspectives of career and work in the company were brought up during the meeting. Although the meeting was supposed to be attended by third-, fourth-year students from participating in ��The Belt and Road�� project��s countries, the meeting was welcomed among huge diversity of international students.       After the presentation students started asking questions to broaden their overview, questions were welcomed and answered by representatives from CSCEC��s branches. Some of students have already submitted their resumes.  CSCES stated that after applicants pass a job interview, it would send ��letters of intent for acceptance�� to them. An official employment contract would be signed with local branch company, after graduation and returning to home.      China Construction Eighth Engineering Corporation is flourishing company with stable future development (was A-rated by ��Standard & Poor��s�� and ��Moody��s��).
