ITCC | Ice-breaking

    Although it was raining outside, the tearoom was full of laughing. On Sunday afternoon, 21April,new members from ITCC had an ice-breakingparty. There are 97 people from 25 countries. The warm tea and greetingswelcomed their joining in ITCC.     Pretty soon they began talking with eachother. They have a magical connection because of the love of tea.     The host from ITCC studio first introducedthe information of ITCC and staffs from studio, and welcomed new members. Andthen, the game time began! ISU-OCZJU 2nd international Students Funday

    It was April, 27th 2019, whenthe International students Union of Zhejiang University, Ocean College kickstarted their second international fun-day for the spring semester!    There were six teams that competed for thefunday events. Each team was named based on mythical and biological creaturesof the ocean. Hydra (yellow), Orcas (Oranges), Nautilus (Green), Krakens(Red),Sirens (Pink) and Mermans(Blue). Among the teams were both internationalStudents and Chinese Students. The teams were classified based on physicalstrength and weakness that fulfilled the requirement for the games. Each gamestested students ability to co-operate as a team, despite of intense challengesin their daily lives and to work with confidences, persistence and enthusiasm.     The Games were officially initiated by thepresident of the ISU- OCZJU (Robert) as he made the open remarks by wishingevery team an infinite success and enjoyment.     The first game that kicked start the eventwas the AMAZING RACE/SCAVENGER HUNT. The hunt was confided inside the campus at5 locations: Football field, Gymnasium, Dormitory, Library and Canteen. Each teamshad a number of riddles and challenges to complete, before finding thetreasure!   (include photos of thechallenge). The first team that found the treasure were Sirens , however duetheir failure to complete a challenge at the library, the treasure was given toteam Orcas whom came in second place.     The next events that followed were the timeand spoon, sack race, 4 legged race, Tug or war, relay race and No facialexpression ( eating sour fruits).     As the day slowly closes in, the judges(Yuvna, Abba and Ky) tallied the score sand announced the  teams position. Coming in 6th Position were the Sirens gaining a total of 69 points, followed by Krakens (119points) , Orcas (240 points), Nautilus (317 points), Hydra (330 points) andcoming victorious were Merman achieving 384 points.     The event was concluded by the ISU-OCZJUPresident. The treasure from the scavenger hunt was reveal! This officiallyannounced the endorsed ISU-OCZJU Logo! Robert, acknowledged all the organizers,facilitators and judges of the events (Maria,Elna,Farah,Yuvna, Mehadi, Tajrin,Abba, Ky and Yuvna) and the international student affair personnel. The awardswere presented to the 1st- 3rd positions along with sophisticated souvenirs to all participants.

Innovation & Entrepreneurship, A Beginning Towards Wondrous Idea Impacts

   On April 19, the Orientation for International StudentsInnovation and Entrepreneurship Contest of Zhejiang Province, 2019 was held atAsian Youth Exchange Center, Zijingang Campus. The vice Dean of International CollegeZhengzhong Lu and Ms. XiangPing Xie from Cross-Border Trading Town  were present in the Orientation. A spectacularOrientation about Innovation and Entrepreneurship was presented to the audienceby the Project Managers of Cross-Border Entrepreneurship Park Ms. Hong Zhu, Ms.Tingting Zhu and Ms. Jin Chen, a representative of the Entrepreneurship Parkwho was also a former Graduate from ZJU . The Orientation has attracted over 50students gathering from over 10 countries including China, USA, Australia, Austria,Korea, Japan, Malaysia, India, Cambodia, South Africa, and soon.    In the first segment, Ms. Zhu gave a brief introduction on theEntrepreneurship Park of Foreign Students. The Park is based on ��The Road andBelt Initiative�� as a starting point, under the cooperation between theuniversities and the town, supported by dimensional platforms like tradingpartner program, global merchandising, etc. Global connection through Internet,culture, talents, industries, etc. As the organizing committee of InternationalStudents Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest of Zhejiang Province 2019, wehope that more International students participate eagerly in the contest andwelcome international student to take an in-depth look at the excellentservices.     Ms Chen, an American 2018 graduate from ZJU whose firm iscurrently stationed at the Entrepreneurship Park returned to share her pleasantexperience and stories with her juniors. She stated that China has a superb entrepreneurshipenvironment, the university as well as the government provides platforms andresources for international students entrepreneurship. She sincerely hopes thateveryone cherishes this opportunity.     In the final segment, the audiences eagerly raised their concernsregarding various topics including the contest arrangements, the composing of agood business plan, the presenting of contest-purpose Power Point and manymore. Ms. Chu provided an excellent introduction with patience and detailedinformation to the student. It had not only given them a better understandingof the contest as well as have seen a clearer picture of what to expect fromtheir projects.   This orientation is a goodway to serve international students who focus on innovation and entrepreneurshipin ZJU. It helps them to communicate with others, generate new ideas and make abetter career plan for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Huawei and Zhejiang University: New employment platform for international students

    On April 12, three Huaweistaff, Han Hongwei(CHRO), Liu Ye(HRBP for North Eastern Europe) and ZhengSenyan(HRM of Huawei Hangzhou Research Center) visited ZhejiangUniversity. Shen Jie, Dean of International College of ZJU, had a thorough talkwith them on international students' employment. Ye Wen, vice director ofStudent Affairs Office and Shen Dan, International Students��Counselor, attendedthe meeting.     Han Hongwei started from abrief introduction of the company's development, overseas businesses and thedemand for global talents. He spoke highly of fourinternational students of ZJU admitted last year, praising that they notonly have high quality and professional skills, but also have a betterunderstanding of Chinese culture. They were all quick learners and did a goodjob during internship. This year, Huawei still have many vacancies inmarketing, service sector, R&D, HR, etc., includingthe branch of NorthEastern Europe, Eurasia, North Africa, South Africa, the Middle East andSoutheast Asia.     Dean Shen said that ZJUattaches great importance to the cultivation and employment of internationalstudents. In recent years, International College has actively stepped upconnections with companies, and built Innovation & EntrepreneurshipPractice Base for International Students. The cultivationgoals of ZJUis very consistent with Huawei's demand for global talents. And international students from more than 150 counties is almostcovering region talents needs of Huawei��s globalization development. Atthe same time, with the Belt and Road Initiative, a stronger industry anduniversity collaboration will facilitate Chinese companies internationaldevelopment. Dean Shen suggested we can explore new cooperation channels toopen up opportunities. In addition to annual campus recruitment, we can developprograms such as localized training of global talents and customized training forcompanies.     Both sides exchanged anddiscussed employment-related issues including internship and internship visaannotation.     Huawei International StudentRecruitment was held in Asian Youth Communication Center of Zijingang Campus onApril 12, 2019. This is the second time for Huawei to hold a recruitment forinternational students of Zhejiang University, aiming to build a bridge betweenthe university and the enterprise, and provide a broader platform forinternational students to start their own career and get employed. The conferenceattracted more than 80 international students from more than 40 countriesincluding Canada, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Malaysia, South Korea, Congo��Nigeria and so on.     Feng Weixiong, the head ofHuawei's human resources department, made an overview of Huawei. In recentyears, with the expansion of business and the upgrading of technology, Huawei,proceeding from the global strategy, is committed to promoting the global intellectualization and interconnection, also creatingmore fortune for the world. International students not only have their owncultural accumulation, but also have a better understanding of Chinese culture,which is an important force to Huawei's globalization. Last year, 4 outstandinggraduates of international students from ZJU joined Huawei. They can identifywith Huawei's culture and core values, and quickly integrate into their work.This year, Huawei still has a large recruitment demand for internationalstudents, the positions involve sales, service, human resources, R&D, etc.     In the communicationsession, international students actively took part in. Open Mic Night

   April13 marked the grand opening of the International Student��s Open Mic Night.Chinese and international students from Canada, Malaysia, India, Korea,Philippine, Iceland, Russia, Thailand, Estonia, Angola, etc. presented a feastfor all on Zijingang Campus, Zhejiang University. The gala was co-hosted byInternational Students�� Union of Zhejiang University and Students Associationfor Overseas Exchange.     Withmore than 20 performances from singing, dancing, rapping to instrument playing brought by over 50students, the night was never short of excitement.     Andreas, from Estonia,played a mellow duet singing his own song Throughthe Foggy Window, which was just like casting a spell on the audience. Thebilingual rap Young Forever by Wang Duoyu,from China and KIM JANG WON, from Korea showed that music knows no boundaries.And the Canadian Lu Siwei, inspired by the atmosphere, improvised a rap.     Besides singing songs,the Korean dance team ��Luna�� gave us a fascinating K-pop dancing. Chinesestudent Zhou Yi played Girls�� Love with Xun, an ancient Chinese instrument. Themelodious sound gave us a new experience.     All performances wonapplause. The three-hour stunning Open Mic Night, where Chinese andinternational students gathered together, appreciating the beauty of music andsharing their love for music, was truly impressive and unforgettable!

The 1st International Student Enrollment Ambassador Contest of Zhejiang University Successfully Held

 The 1st International Student Enrollment Ambassador Contest ofZhejiang University was held in the afternoon of March 22nd,2019. Members ofthe judging panel include Ms.SUN Fangjiao, Vice Dean of International College, administrationoffice leaders of International college and representative of Chinese languageteachers.   Since the beginning of January 2019, the activity has received a strongresponse among allinternational students. Students from South Korea, Malaysia,Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia and other countriesactively participated in, with 10 groups advancing to the final round.     After a warm speech addressed by Ms. SUN Fangjiao, all the 10 groupspresented the efforts they have done for enrollment publicity and expressedopinions from different aspects about international students admission affairs. After more than 3 hours of fierce competition,LIN Yuhan group from Malaysiawon the first prize, KE Lixiang(KINIAMBI ZOLA CHRISTIAN) group from DemocraticRepublic of the Congo and CHEN Dawei group from Malaysia won the second prize, XIEZhuyao group and WANG Youjun group from Malaysia, and CUI Zhiyuangroup from SouthKorea won the third prize. Yemen Students Won the 2019 ZJU Futsal Challenge

 On March 24,men��s final of2019 Futsal Challenge of Zhejiang University ended in the sports ground ofYuquan Campus.  The Yemeni team triumphed4-1 over the Tarim team, winning back-to-back champions in 2018 and 2019. The challengewas hosted by Students' Football Association of Zhejiang University, andjointly organized by the Department of Public Physical & Art Education andZhejiang University hospital. On the theme of ��Let��s playfootball in spring��,34 men��s teams competed in the game. Every team wasdistinctive, with players from different countries, colleges and majors whilesharing the same enthusiasm towards football. They fought hard and vigorouslyon the field, showing their vitality of youth. The futsal consisted of thegroup single round robin and the elimination match. In the group phase, 32teams were divided into 8 groups and competed in 48 games; the best two teamsof each group entered the elimination match, where the winner of each matchreached the next round. Experience of Tea Blends by ITCC

On the afternoon of 22, December, which is also the Winter Solstice Festival in Chinese lunar year, ITCC(International Tea Culture Club of Zhejiang University) spent a fulfilling and hyggeling time together at TEAnk studio located in the White Birch Forest in Hangzhou. ��Tea blends��, a new trend of Chinese tea, is popular among youngsters. It provides a new method to develop the culture besides the traditional drinking way through which you can mix tea with coffee, wine, milk, syrup and so on in a certain proportion to create appealing appearances as well as excellent tastes. Members enjoyed a series of fantastic performances of tea blends performed by teachers from TEAnk and were impressed deeply by the flowing movements of integrating. The harmonization of mellow tea, colorful syrup and strong wine finally contribute to    gorgeous tea blends decorated with flower, mint and so on. The fragrance and taste are rich in layers. After appreciating fantastic performance, members couldn��t wait to have a hands-on experience. Under teachers�� guidance, everyone DIY their own work, swelling with pleasure and hygge in the process of creating. The last part finally came. Yanru Dong, chairwoman of ITCC, performed her original work of tea blends which won the gold medal of the fifth Chinese tea Olympic Games. Made by black tea, milk, foam and zest, it has a truly poetic Chinese name -����Ⱦ��֬��. The tea was high praised and loved by all members and was ��looted�� in a flash. During this trip, participants were amazed by the inclusive trait of tea. Various kinds of tea can cooperate with each other while tea tastes good with coffee, wine, fruit, milk, flower and all the wonderful things you can imagine. Chinese tea culture has a really long history and lasted charms up till now. ITCC (ZJU International Tea Culture Club) always takes on the responsibility to inherit and develop tea culture and we sincerely hope to be creative and imaginative, spreading its enchanting and increased charms over regions and countries.

Strengthen International Students' Awareness of Fire Fighting & Jointly Create a Harmonious Campus

    Although weather was very cold but Fire has no mercy. In order to let the students and teachers to know about how to handle fire and let people have enough ability to rescue himself or other people, we invite our students and stuffs together with the school security department to hold fire drill on November16th afternoon.     This drill takes safety knowledge and matters needing attention for content. The person in charge of the fire control office of school security department made a mobilization speech for the fire drill and demonstrated how to use the fire extinguisher.     We let students and teachers use fire extinguishers to put out a fire and it increases the experience for how to handle fire.     Cherish your life and keep away from fire.     This event was very successful. People get valuable experience. But we still need to remember the fire disasters were everywhere. We need to pay attention and increase our knowledge to keep our school become safety.

Interactions with International Students in International Restaurant

    On November 16th we invited some student representatives to visit our west international restaurant. The students are very surprised with our Special decoration style and good dining environment. In our restaurant students can show their cooking skills and organize different activities in middle of the large terrace.                   With the development of society, we use the easy way and it makes our customers order food more quickly. Customers can sweep code and it can be billed with alipay or student card. Teachers led students to visit our kitchen and introduced our different cooking equipment, material supply process and regulatory framework. We use advanced management system to make sure food safety and fire safety.         At the end of this visit, teachers and students had a discussion. The students were very happy with our dining environment and food serving speed especially our price of the food. Some of the students want the international college and ISU to organize this kind of activities more frequently and they want to use the free area and kitchen equipment to hold more events. At the end of this meeting, teachers want all the students�� help to control hygiene supervision and make recommendations for our restaurant.

Shin Jaewon won the third prize in the second essay contest for overseas students in China

      The awarding ceremony the second essay contest for overseas students in China was held in Beijing. Shin Jaewon, a Korean student of Zhejiang University  won the third prize.       The activity organizer got very positive responses from a large number of international students and graduates, and received over 800 essays from students of more than 100 institutions. Finally, five students won the first prize, eight won the second and sixteen won the third.       Shin told the story of his study and life in Zhejiang University, especially the assistance he got from his teachers, which broadening his vision, enriching his mind and so on. Part of awarded essay��       For the four years in college, if they were the four seasons: my fresh year would be a prosperous spring; the sophomore, a vigorous summer; the third year, a fruitful autumn; the fourth year, a tranquil winter. If I were a tree, I would be honored that I was planted in the campus of Zhejiang University. The free, deep and rich soil here provided me with valuable nutrition, and allowed me to thrive and see a higher and farther world. There are all sorts of talents gathering from all over the world. Living with them, I learned how better plan my life, which enable me to answer the two questions more clearly and steadily. Int'l students from Zhejiang University won gold and silver medals in Speech Contest

      In order to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Chinese reform and opening up and build a good platform for international student education in Zhejiang Province, "New Era, Foreign Students Say" themed Speech Contest, an event of series of activities of " Mengxing Zhejiang�������㽭)" was held on November 24 in Hangzhou. 89 foreign students from 37 universities in the province participated in the competition. Three of them are from Zhejiang University (ZJU), they are Meilia (л����) from Indonesia, Christian(������) from Democratic Republic of the Congo and Taing Yuykiet(�����) from Cambodia.      The speech contest consisted of the preliminary competition and the final. In the preliminary competition, 89 students were randomly divided into six groups, the first two of each group entered the final. All 3 students from ZJU had excellent performances and are qualified for the final. In the final, 13 students from 8 universities competed fiercely. Based on personal experience and knowledge, competitors spoke on the topics of China��s four new inventions, China's folk culture and the development of Zhejiang in new era and so on. Their stories got hot applause from judges and audiences.       Taing Yuykiet described Hangzhou as gentle and brave, full of humanity and innovation. There is no word to describe how much he loves Hangzhou. Meilia talked about her love to Wuzhen Town, Zhejiang and the rapid development of Zhejiang Province. Christian told his Chinese story, as an African boy travelled from north China to south China, experiencing the diversified, inclusive and wonderful Zhejiang. Their excellent performance was highly recognized by the judges and the audience. In the end, Taing Yuykiet became the number one with 95.86 points, Meilia ranked as the second with 95.58 points and Christian was ranked as the third with 94.73 points. According to the award setting rule of the contest, Taing Yuykiet and Meilia won the gold medals, and Christian won the silver medal.       Ms. Wang Sainan, counsellor of international college, as the advisor of the contestants of ZJU and a judge of the preliminary competition, attended the event.

Hundreds of International Students Experience the Charm of Chinese Silk

    From 17th to 18th November, the Chinese government scholarship students�� event, ��Experience China, Explore Silk Culture�� hosted by the China Scholarship Council, had been held in the ��City of Silk��, Hang Zhou. It is one of the 2018 ��Experience China�� brand events of the CSC. 40 Chinese government scholarship students of our university and some of the Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and Zhejiang Industrial and Commercial University attended the event together. Shen jie, dean of the international college, Zhejiang University, delivered a speech on behalf of the brother universities at the opening ceremony. Associate dean Lu Zhengzhong, international student counselor Shi Huiling, Zhang Junyan participated in the event.    The activities are rich and colorful, including knowledge lecture, cultural experience, museum visit, enterprise visit, art communication and so on. Through the lecture named ��silk culture and fashion trends��, international students learned about the knowledge of silk and silk clothing changes and trends since the reform and opening up campaign. They appreciated silk products and experienced traditional silk co-weaving and tie-dye craft. They felt the beauty of Chinese silk by visiting the Chinese Silk Museum. Students not only found out that the silk technology innovation was promising in the WENSLI, but also enjoyed the fashion charm of silk art in the E-fashion town.      Silk is a significant carrier of Chinese culture. The ��Experience China, Explore Silk Culture�� event made international students have a better understanding of the traditional and the modern of Chinese silk, as well as the technology and art, the costume and aesthetic. They have a more direct and comprehensive grasp of Chinese silk culture. They were expressing their hope of becoming the ambassadors of Chinese culture in the future to spread the Chinese silk culture while enjoying the fantastic silk craftsmanship, the fashion of clothing and the beauty of the art. The more important thing is that it provided a chance for international students to learn deeply about the social development, especially the economic and technological progress of China since the reform and opening up campaign by experiencing Chinese culture, which laid an essential foundation of strengthening international student education and cultivating students�� love in China.
